Hi

I would like some advice. I currently shoot a 70D and 400 5.6. I am considering switching to a 5D MK IV. I assume some of you have done this. My question is, did you find the extra mega pixels compensated for the loss of the crop? I do have a 1.4 TC, so could shoot the 400 with it to give me a 560 F8

I had a slightly different setup (7D and Sigma 150-600C), but yes, the extra pixels have compensated for the loss of the 1.6 crop. Plus focusing is faster and more accurate and the high ISO noise is better. The 7D had a slightly higher frame rate which I have surprisingly noticed.

Not the same set up, but I purchased 90D when it first came out as a companion body to my 5D IV. After a month of extensive shooting with the 90D, I had to return it. Just too spoiled by the 5D IV. No reach and extra frame rate advantages of the 90D over 5D IV could make up for the IQ, high ISO performance and the greater number of keepers that I'm getting from the 5D IV. The 5D IV pairs really well with my Sigma 150-600C that I'm not as thirsting after the additional reach that I used to when I had once owned the 100-400L lens.

I went from my 7D and 70-200mm f/2.8 L to the MK IV, and I can say wholeheartedly YES!!! OMG, the difference is just night and day from the extra pixels, ISO performance, etc. Granted I don't get extra length, everything else is plus, I thing MK IV is 1 FPS behind the 7D, no worrries, I still have it if I need it.

Personally, I don't feel you can get better than the 5D MK IV just yet.
You'll hear of increased Dynamic Range(DR), improved ISO ratings,
and all sorts of other 'improvements' since the 5D IV, but as someone
who has been able to move from a crop-body to the 5D4 very recently,
I can assure you that EVERYTHING about the 5D4 listed as an improvement
in unquestionably for real.

I can't take advantage of the fast-focus abilities, as it's not of my style,
but you'll find an overwhelming majority of users who love it.

There's a gargantuan improvement in Dynamic Range(DR) and other qualities
which are immediately visible when viewing the images on a computer display,
which are truly exceptional when straight from the camera.

The variable-ISO results can be astounding, as seen here

I second all that. I moved from an 80D, which I kept, to a 5DIV and really don't miss the crop. The extra resolution of the 5DIV more than makes up for the loss of reach. I have a x1.4 extender which I use with the 100-400. I occasionally use the 80D and while it is good it is nowhere as good as the 5DIV. Get a 5DIV. You will love it!

I really like that. Well done. Very appropriate in these times of enforced self-isolation.

Thought I'd try a bit of Lightroom PP on an otherwise fairly uninteresting pic of bulrushes which I took this morning on my daily walk. It's nice to try for something different. We're allowed an hour's exercise each day so I make the best of it with the camera.
