Excellent close-up of this egret. The sharpness and detail are great.

I was birding a nature preserve earlier this week (it's ok, I was only one of about three people there and we kept our distance). This Great Egret came strolling through the preserve looking for lizards and snakes and was very unafraid of me, literally passing within a foot of me as he was hunting. I followed him around and got photos of him catching and eating three lizards before being scared off by a feral cat.

This particular lizard put up a fight. As you can see, the lizard was completely impaled by the beak, but it was still very much alive. When the bird tried to swallow it, the lizard made a break for it but the egret caught it again. After a bit of a struggle, the lizard escaped once more by dropping it's tail. With a massive hole through it and no tail, the lizard ran but the egret was too quick. This time, down it went, but, I must say, that was one spirited lizard!
