at a fire scene several years ago in detroit....

torch job at an abandoned apartment house empty for at LEAST a decade...

i got there about 2 minutes after the first tower truck (they were just setting up their outriggers) and before the engines showed. several trucks but no pumpers...

this was about an hour into the fire, taken by one of the local news stations videographer...

carrying the class II vest got me much better treatment than the iphoners and snap-shooters did. of course hanging with the video guy didnt hurt either...

Thanks. That is the group of islands that includes the Sleeping Giant, but I don't remember if that one is showing or which is which. Beautiful view, recommended to visit if you ever go that way. In those days it was an 18-hour drive from Toronto to Thunder Bay, which was then two cities Fort William and Port Arthur.

How it got named Thunder Bay when those two cities merged is an interesting story. The to-be new city solicited proposals for the name and put the three top suggestions to a vote: Thunder Bay, Lakehead, and The Lakehead. Good thing that the last two split the vote of those who didn't like Thunder Bay, a far better and more romantic name.

It's wonderful country up there, especially if you are an outdoors kind of a person. I know several people who moved from Toronto to there and not even one who moved from there to Toronto. I kind of miss it, haven't been there for 50 years.

I don't know anything. But I know other things.

This first shot was taken of me by my friend Carrie in Sauvie Island, Oregon, in 2013...

Last year, after decades of trying, I finally landed my first magazine cover. It was the August issue of Vintage Guitar Magazine, and I was shooting my buddy's 1952 Fender Telecaster for the cover. The guitar once resided in the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame. The photo was taken by the guitar's owner, my buddy Rod...

Ran into a young guy in Detroit a couple weeks ago and we wandered around for a few hours. He sent me this a few days later.
