I used my 200-600 with 1.4 converter on a recent trip to Spain. The following images were all hand-held, and taken with either my 7R4 with the 1.4 converter. Two were 60% or so cropped.

I haven't had my 200-600 for long, but I do find it is very good with the Sony 7R4

How do you find the speed of focus with the converter Becky?

I am sorry but I forgot this post. The 1.4 converter seemed to make a minimal difference. In fact I have mostly used this lens with the converter. Well worth having if you ignore the cost.

Now have one of these lenses. Originally for my A73 but decided to also get a used A6300 for extra reach instead of a Sony extender which is silly money. Very pleased with the lens on both bodies all the way through the zoom range. Attached jpeg taken at 600mm(900mm) on the A6300, hand held and yes the OS is excellent.

I'm seeing some nice shots with this lens. I have a few questions. IQ at 600mm? How is it for BIF regarding initial AF acquisition and tracking? I'm thinking about the AR74.

A7R4 200/600
This came about as it was mentioned in another forum
I did some tests today as I had not really seen this as much of a problem the a7r4 and 200/600 has given me some nice shots but I tend to go through them quickly and delete most just keeping what I think are the nice ones so often many never got a close look .

Far more had missed focus than I had realized I won't be using this combo again I shot wide open and at 1/4000 and above shutter speed .
I then put the A9mkII on the lens yes I did miss a few but focus was far more precise and a much greater hit rate and was as good as I could wish for.

Next I put the FE 600 on the a7r4 it's not up to the a9mkII in accuracy or speed in grabbing the subject but not to bad over all I need to test this a bit more as it's no good having MPs if there not as sharp as they could be, the a9mkII and FE 600 just blows me away I might just by another a9 MKII and put a 1.4 on the lens as this make very little difference .
I used Zone + tracking and tracking expand Large on both cameras for my testing most shots in clear blue sky so nothing to take the focus of the birds .

Just my thoughts on this.

Rob.

I miss many BIF with my A7R4 + 200-600, with hindsight (which is wonderful) I should of bought a A9 MKII. This camera is on my list.

Depending on what the Canon R will be priced at it may not be that far from the A9 II.

Yes very interesting. And it is documented online. Before I made my purchase (A9/200-600) most of my research pointed to same. One of the reasons early on I decided on the A9 vs the RIV. Also locally on a classified site found an advertiser selling his RIV even considering part exchange for Riii. His response to my query was similar on the AF issue plus he wasn’t happy with lowlight performance.
