I'm not new to photography but I would like to get better at vehicle photography. I'm hoping y'all can share some setup photos and resulting final edits. I'm after more dramatic photos, closer to sunset or even sunrise, not necessarily daytime photos.

For starters, I want a better version of this- my weak attempt at sunset. No lights, just exposure adjustments. I have 2 speedlights available plus a half dozen studio lights I can run off battery. It's not for lack of gear, that's for sure. Elinchrom skyports to trigger the setup, including the BX-500s. I realize I may need some other trigger mechanism for the speedlights- 580exIIs.

The light that you want to reflect in the body is behind it. So how was that supposed to work? ; )
Look at post #127 in A few Car Lighting Tips
And sometimes some help from image editing works: https://photography-on-the.net …showthread.php?p=17744676

I never said I wanted it front lit. I can't believe that's the only way to light a car.

Sorry, but I'm not seeing it. No drama, no emotion there for me. Nice truck though for sure!

maybe you missed the point of the thread. I want to create MORE drama, and want to see how others accomplish that effect.

And I didn't say "front lit" either. Did you look at post #127? And the other example? Neither is using front light.

Not sure if this fits. Shot from the darkside primarily to hide a paint mismatch on bumper and fender.

Editing someone's photo and reposting without permission is a big no-no around here.

I did not realise that had changed, as I originally had in my name bit that editing was ok. So how do you show someone with out editing, just by words?

About 9 months ago I started like you. I had shot many other subjects with various lighting conditions for many years but wanted to get better with cars.

It is a lot of work but I enjoyed the new challenge. I’m not there yet but I’ve been learning. Not sure if these are what you wanted but here are some samples of what I’ve done. I’ll post a couple more and have a few more in my gallery

Also black is the hardest type of car to shoot. Depending on the lighting conditions I use strobes, I light paint and do long exposures or use natural lighting if I can avoid the trees and light poles in my reflection.

these are nice examples. Now if you had a setup shot that would be even better. then I can see the gear you used, and how you placed it. That first one Angelino is sweet. Very nicely done. A wall hanger for the owner
