To be precise it is Tiritiri Matangi Island, in Auckland's Hauraki Gulf. The island is listed as one of, if not the most popular, tourist attraction in Auckland. It is an island restored to its natural conditions and used as an open sanctuary for wildlife. It has some of the rarest animals in the world, including the Takahi (around 300) and the 265 Million year old Tuatara - an animal that preceded the dinosaurs.

The juveniles of this animal have a third eye that looks skyward, probably an evolutionary protection against predation by NZ's falcons (now extinct)
