A bit of advice as I am sure some have you have used both lenses.. I'm looking to get a wide angle and am deciding between the Tamron 17-28 f2.8 and the sony 16-35 f4. I see the pro's and cons for both (aperture, more useable range and all that), but when looking at image quality at apertures in the 5.6-11 range which one is the best.

I have the Tamron 28-75, which I really like.
Thanks

probably a small difference at those apertures, possibly with the Tamron edging out the zony. It's very similar to the 28-75, stronger on the wide, and weaker on the long end. I'de say both the tamron's are stronger than the 16-35 and 24-70 ZA lenses they compete against.

if you like the 28-75, you may like the 17-28 even more, It's certainly my favorite tamron, so versatile, landscapes, small interior people photos, low light, travel. It's significantly smaller than the 16-35, and doesnt extend (the 16-35 extends at 16mm, retracts at 35)

Ive seen those but my experience with this type of stuff is more ends up on my thumb than on the lens and its never aligned. Putting a screen protector on a phone is challenging

I'm not bad with putting stuff on, but if it isn't perfect..... It'd bug me forever!

FANTASTIC news Vinz!!!!!!!!!
Now I'll have someone to coach me on the T4. Should ship B/H next Monday. I have absolutely NO reason to get excited about it, knowing
I cannot do Zone continuous on AF-On AND single point on the Q button (how freaking lame is that!) but I've wanted to experience Fuji
for many many years...it is just so niche and wierdo I just might like it ;)

cool. it's in stock and ready to ship here.

hint: no tax for out of state folks

Charlie - can you remind me the name of the video editing software you recommended to me? The free one. I can’t find the post.

I sold my iPad Pro so no longer have lumafusion so it’s time to learn a new one. Thanks

Edit - I think it was free but no problem if it’s not, I’ll have a look anyway

there are some settings that you should do out the box:

1. Auto save. Davinci Resolve -> Preferences -> User -> Project Save and Load and use either live save and or project backups every 10 minutes. Nothing more frustrating than losing a bunch of work because the app crashed for whatever reason.
2. Video cache, set the location if you have a spare NVME/SSD, Davinci Resolve -> Preferences -> System -> Media Storage

it has one other quirk in that whatever you want your playback footage output to be in, like 4K30 for instance, import just 1 clip when starting your project, and that clip needs to be 4K30. If you mix and match different frame rates (like 4K30 + 1080p120fps + 4K24), you can get your settings all screwed up. It's a really odd quirk and cant seem to change settings after the fact.

that should get you started, the "Cut" tab at the bottom is geared towards beginners, however I find the full "Edit" tab much faster with CTRL+ALT+[and CTRL+ALT+] (trim to left and right), so it might be simpler to learn the edit tab right from the start.

My general workflow is once I import all footage, ESPECIALLY 4K, select all, right click, generate optimized media, I wont work on the files till this is done. it's added work, but having a responsive UI is important for me. Generally not an issue with 1080 footage.

Spot on Charlie, thanks for posting this. So to clarify, if I want my final output to be 4K/24 I need to make sure the first clip is 4K/24 and after that I can still bring in different frame rates, just as long as the first clip was the same as the desired output?

With the last paragraph and “generate optimised media” what does that actually do? Does it change any frame rates of the files or is it more like Lightroom building previews? My new processor is a beast so hoping things run smooth

1. yes, this is correct

2. it creates proxies (low res footage) so that you can edit with smooth playback, similar to lightroom previews. With a beast setup, you may no need to do this step.

really do wish I can have a beastly setup for video, only thing I have right is the memory, you need 32GB if you dont want to run into issues, 16 will be a bottleneck depending on other operations going on, 32, there's a little bit of leeway, not a whole lot.

Or if that editor seems a bit overwhelming, you might try Hitfilm Express.

I’ll maybe have to up my ram then as I only have 16. My processor is the i9-9900k though so I’ll see how it does first then try ram
