Toni,

Are both shots of the same train? If so, HOW did you get on the train in the 2nd picture?

Just curious Toni!! ;-)a

Toni,

This was an organised photo charter where an invited group pay to photograph a train on a preserved line and the group is then transported on the train to various spots on the line to take a variety of shots.

In this particular instance we all had to travel in the two brake vans at the rear (see shot below) and when we arrived at a suitable spot we would decamp and the train would back up and do a couple of run pasts.

When we were finished everybody climbed back into the brake vans and off we went to another spot which is how I managed to take the shot.

LOL, I thought you were standing on a low bridge, and I was envisaging you repeatedly taking a photo, then jumping into your car and racing off to the next (planned) spot, arriving before the train got there!

Still waiting for the wisdom they promised would be worth getting old for.

These were scanned at 1200 DPI, and sized for a 5X7 on an Epson 550. Then I resize to smaller resolution for posting on websites, just to speed up the posting, and to save bandwidth. The original picture is 10.9 MB, the one I posted is about 500 KB.

I'd been planning this shot for quite some time, finally got the opportunity Tuesday. Weather wasn't very cooperative, and I'm not happy with the results. But I think we all learn by posting "less than the best."

Interesting. So how many of you would normally be accommodated on such a charter and what does it cost? What about the photographs, copy rights?

The number allowed depends, on this particular charter space was limited with only two brake vans available which accomodated about 20 persons in total, had there been coaches then obviously

more could have been carried.

Cost depends on the organiser, this one was £20 I think, copyright remains with the photographer, however everyone would make all shots freely available to the railway.

The "Friends of SP794" decorate the locomotive with holiday lights every Christmas, but I guess they didn't get a chance to remove them this year.
