Well I have seen people share pictures of their beloved pets that have past and posted my condolences. But now I realized I never really understood the loss. Last Monday, my youngest pet, Jake, had a heart attack and passed. Here acting 100% normal one minute. Then it looked like he fell and was having a hard time standing back up. Someone helped me get him into the car and I drove him to the vet 2 minutes away. The vet called me (curbside only) a minute later and said he was gone. He was still panting when they put him on the stretcher and brought him inside. While they were getting the stretcher, I got to kiss him and pat his head and tell him to hang in there because he was at the vet. He was an F1 Goldendoodles born September 1, 2009. I feel like a part of me is missing and I have broken down a few times this week, but now I'm starting to come to terms. He was the best companion and left us with more good memories than I can count. It's hard sitting on the couch watching TV at night because he was always at my side or in my lap. He was an 80 pound "lap dog" who, as we predicted many years ago from his behavior, was a puppy until the minute he passed. We miss you, Jake.

Randy, I'm very sorry to read this--we've lost two poodles and a cockapoo in about 12 years, the most-recent early this year.. I still tearup about weekly about not having her with us.. Time will ease your sorrow.

Thanks. Today marks 1 week and it finally doesn't feel like there is a big hole in my heart. We had to put a cat down a couple months ago, but that was quite a bit different because he was 19 and blind and we knew it was coming. I was really blindsided by this.

Sorry Randy, I know the pain all to well. Years ago I had a bassett hound that ran across the yard, had a heart attack and died in my arms. As the years have gone by I have never forgotten the great times with that dog. I have had, loved and lost a lot of dogs (as we tend to adopt seniors) and the only thing I would say is dont let the pain of losing one stop the joy of rescuing another.

Thanks folks. We found a puppy that was born the day Jake passed. We will bring her home on July 7th. The family is looking forward to making new memories with a new puppy.

Isn’t that interesting how that can work out? We had a similar experience with the passing of our first little guy, and our second one. All the best!
