I would love it to be an annual pilgrimage, but alas only done it the once, in 2016, on a trip back to see my sister and my now late father.
I was however lucky enough to arrange my trip to coincide with RIAT and Duxford on the Saturday and Sunday of the first weekend I was there, and Farnborough on the following Saturday!
If I may stick my oar in here a moment? Your ref to Farnborough, I went to see the air show there more years back than I wish to remember. The Blackburn Bucaneers were a star attraction and 3 of them did a fantastic display.
But then they took it to a completely different level by landing all at the same time. The big difference was that 2 landed from one direction whilst the third landed from the other!
On touch down and hurtling towards each other they just folded the wings up and passed each other on the runway. I just waited for the BANG but it didn't occure ! I was dumb struck and I can't see 'Elf-n-safety allowing that now?
A similar situation when I was stationed on 205 Sqdn, Changi. The NASU, Naval Air Support Unit, was just behind our pans and to get from the offices to the pans we had to cross the taxi way to NASU. I was going out to a Shackelton and had to stop as a flight of Bucks were coming in at a rare rate and turned into the narrow taxiway. At the same time a flight of Fairy Gannets were coming out!. I stopped to watch because there wasn't room for both, but there was. They both just carried on at better part of about 40 kts towards each other, folded up their wings and shot past each other with just a couple of feet between the wing stubs! I was totally astounded, but for them it was just normal I suppose. They are used to maneuvering on a postage stamp and are totally lunatic
