These little boogers have been taking over the HB feeders. Must be the extreme dry weather? Never had this problem so bad.

Couldn’t add lens. Laowa 2.5-5x

I am only just finding my feet with macro photography at the moment. I am using a Yongnuo YN24EX ETTL Macro Flash. I am finding I am not getting enough light inside the flower - any advice appreciated? Perhaps I just need to adjust my flash heads to a better position. This is the first shot I have managed to get the head in focus as I tend to panic when I see the bee turning around in the flower to make its way out.

I have the flash set to zero compensation and shooting at F11 with ISO 500 (this is on auto) with shutter speed of 1/200. I had 2 extension tubes (20 + 12) on my Canon 100mm Macro

Here's a video on my rig and in it I describe how I'm using my twin flash:

Keep in mind that objects behind the subject are going to be darker due to flash fall off. So you're never going to get a perfectly exposed background with a flash. That being said under exposing the background will cause the colors in it to saturate in a way that's different than pushing saturation in post (so it's not a bad thing).

I have the Yongnuo ring flash. It's OK for your basic, documentary type of shot, but it's a flat light it's like using on camera flash. I'm thinking of the Yongnuo version of this Canon. Everyone who owns these flashes seem to love them but ALL seem to feel the need to modify the diffusion.

Thank you very much Dalantech. I will look forward to watching this after work. It is too wet and windy for any photography unless there is a sudden change in the weather (praying!)

You have to find some way to diffuse them because they are point sources -brutally harsh light out of the box...

I do have some DIY diffusing ideas for it but haven't done it thinking I'll be getting rid of it & replacing it with the twin flash. I've actually seen someone repurpose it because they replaced it with the twin flash. He uses it on the table of his macro studio, putting it beneath the subject to get light in the hard to reach places. Quite slick actually.
