Hey man, welcome to the Fuji club! Didn't realize you had jumped in here. I look forward to seeing your images in here, I stopped following the Sony thread a while back, it just ended up having too much traffic for me to keep track of, especially after I was basically excommunicated for voicing my admiration of Fuji when I sold my Sony gear...

Hey bro. Thanks. I love the Fuji system now. I still have my Sony though because my son is using it for filming but if not, i would have sold them.

Not a clue as to how long this little guy has been traveling in my lunch box back and forth to work! The better-half noticed him when restocking my dinner. Thus a macro opportunity was born.
This little spider (ID unknown to me) now has a home terrarium, wingless fruit flies to eat, and a damp paper towel.

So, since I'm moving to the mountains in GA soon, I'm thinking I'll be doing more landscapes in the future. I'm strongly considering converting one of my older cameras into an IR camera (the X-T1 or X-Pro2).

Does anyone have any experience with this? I'm leaning toward the standard 720nm filter conversion, but I know I'll likely do almost entirely B&W with it, so should I get a higher numbered filter? Is there a definite downside to just converting a lower number filter to B&W in post rather than having it pretty much SOOC?

Any input would be helpful :)

A friend of mine did it to his X-T1 recently, the shots look good but he did manage to break one of the ribbon cables in the process so he's stuck at 1600ISO for the moment. I'll ask him about the conversion tonight.

UPDATE

Heard back from my friend. His text below...

It’s pretty straightforward. Getting to the sensor is easy enough if your handy with a soldering iron. Just be careful of the flex cables, they tear easily as I found out the hard way. I went for a full spectrum conversion by just removing the low pass filter and the front facing glass. They are all in a plastic assembly in front of the sensor. Remove it all as it will eliminate reflections internally. I can then use whatever IR filter I want after that in front of the lens. Be aware that a lot of Fuji lenses are not suitable for IR, leaving a nasty hot spot on the image (google it). The 18-135 is perfect though and is not a bad lens.

So sorry for including a shot with the 50-140, that bokeh is probably going to ruin my career. ( :-P )

Thanks for the info, Kim!

I'm looking at having it done by Kolari Vision, but I'm not sure which option would be best, I'll just have to hunker down and do some research this weekend on it.

They also offer a coating that's supposed to virtually eliminate the hot spots you mentioned, I guess it sounds like that's an option worth getting.
