What the heck is "File Explorer"?

See, that's the problem .... people assume that I/we know terms, or that we are already familiar with things, that we have never heard of before.

Its Windowns file Browser that most of the world uses. Same thing as "Finder" in the mac world. And in finder, you can do the same thing to see the properties of the file you have clicked on.

Call me crazy, but I believe people should take the time to learn a little bit about the tools they use, including the names of things.

I don't use File Explorer. . Why would I know the name of something I don't have or use?

.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

I agree with you, but remember that not all people use Windows.

I believe Tom said in another thread he used to use Windows. Explorer has been around for 25 years now so even most former users would have used it. Also, I was replying to another member's post when I mentioned Explorer. BTW, I don't use Macs but I know Finder's name which has been around since 1984, I believe.

You'd be surprised how many people stay in the Apple universe since the 1980's. Tom uses an Apple product of some kind. OTOH, I write software for Windows, Android, and Linux, and I didn't know what "Finder" was called in the Apple world. I can navigate my way around a Mac, but I rarely use them. I would probably have just described it as a "directory viewer", which is generic enough to fit any operating system.

By the way, I did have Lightroom on my old computer, but I absolutely hated using it. . It was the clunkiest, most non-intuitive user interface that I can possibly even imagine. . I don't ever again in my life want to go back to anything like that.

Hooray! My sentiments exactly.

I think you've made your point well enough. This is a photography forum, not a windows support forum. I use Windows, reluctantly. Doesn't mean I know what all the tools are called. The nice thing about this forum is people are generally very willing to help, and not call others mistakes. Its a good thing. English was not my first language, and I still mess up... plus my typing is suspect. Key ideal here is constructive criticism. I am sure you can learn a lot from Tom, as have I. Don't always agree... but I learn something every time.

I try to remember: ISO doesn't fix exposure problems. The three variables are shutter, aperture and ... (wait for it) ... light. As in, adding or subtracting light changes the exposure. That could be flash, reflectors, ND filters and so on.

That having been said, ISO is a great tool for making the best of a bad situation. And that's because the sensor and firmware engineers have done some impressive things over the years.

A picture with grain (but proper shutter) is probably better than a picture with no noise but camera shake or motion blur. Post-processing software is another great tool.

Mostly using Canon bodies with lots of different lenses and flash.

So glad to see someone else realise this. The so-called exposure triangle with ISO at one corner is the biggest myth in photography (well apart from the one about buying new gear will make you a better photographer).

Still waiting for the wisdom they promised would be worth getting old for.

"File Explorer", the name says it all. Just like "Shopping Cart" on a website, it is what it's name says. Sometimes just a bit of common sense and even a bit of research if needed can go a long way in one's self education. We don't live in the age of Enc Britanica any longer, or pulling out a dictionary or thesaurus, we have tools easily available at our fingertips that make easy work of educating oneself with no real effort at all. :)

If one can work a Canon camera, they have the skills to find answers for themselves on the net.

"Man only has 5 senses, and sometimes not even that, so if they define the world, the universe, the dimensions of existence, and spirituality with just these limited senses, their view of what-is and what-can-be is very myopic indeed and they are doomed, now and forever."

Hmm, I thought ‘try google’-type answers were banned on this forum, so that it can be a place for everyone, no matter their level of skill or experience, to learn.

Still waiting for the wisdom they promised would be worth getting old for.

Yes, and this is one of those places... no dumb question comments need, or do your research your self answers.... just my opinion. Not everyone lives their lives with their noses pointed at a screen. Should be a friendly place for all.
