This particular desktop is an I-7 clocking at 3.4 Ghz with 16MB RAM and a GTX 1080 graphics card. I run an SSD for the OS, but not the Catalog, there's not enough room on the SSD.

I think I'll replace it, or one of the other drives with a bigger SSD and see if that helps.

EDIT: What I really should do is upgrade the motherboard and use an SSD with a PCIe Gen 3.0 x4, NVMe 1.3 interface.

Try moving your catalog and previews to the SSD, but not the raws themselves. You don't need to import the raws to an SSD to benefit from the speed in LR or C1...just the previews as that's what the software works off while you're processing. Once the raws are imported and previews are generated, LR/C1 doesn't read the raws again until you export.

The benefit of storing raws to an SSD is that the importing and exporting process will be faster. I store raws that I am currently working on to an external SSD since I am batch exporting stuff for gigs and it speeds up my workflow, but once they are done the raws get stored on my 8TB HDD within the same catalog.

Using C1 I import all raws to my small SSD. Process them and then I can copy over the whole session to my hard drive. Don't see any issues using my 4 yr PC. You can do similar with LR. I have my LR catalog on another smaller SSD (256GB). With 100k images, it is still not half full. RAWs are on the HD. But now I am liking C1 model, if using LR, create a new catalog, import, process and then archive.

I’ve been following this thread with interest. Canon 6DmkII put away for now waiting for A9 + FE200-600mm lens to arrive. Should not be long. My post work is very basic playing around with Affinity. I don’t want to spend $$$ yet on adobe until I learn to do more. The discussions on LR and PS is also interesting almost to the point I feel why not you experts start a fresh thread on that? IMHO would also keep discussions clutter free subject related.

Welcome. You will quickly realise this thread is for pretty much everything and anything. It works well that way. Discussions become too diluted on this site with separate threads for everything and you get less interaction with everything separated out.

Granted it’s harder to find previous discussions on a specific topic though

Good move on the body and lens. If you have not got into a platform for editing. Then have a look at Capture 1 and Luminar as lightroom is not the only option.

Luminar 4 is very tempting. Specially its AI claims, seems to make things easier than separate layers and masking. Any Luminar 4 users care to comment?

Well, here is my first video using the Sony ZV-1, warts and all. As I'm sure Travis can attest to, staring into a camera and speaking as though talking to a friend is not as easy as it might sound, at least to me. This is my unscripted and obviously unrehearsed video I made using my newest camera. Please excuse the amateur job I did.

Shot at 1080p @ 30fps and edited in Vegas Pro 16 to add the title and compress for Youtube.

it says that it can't be viewed, it is private.

And yes...talking to a camera like it is a group of people is not as easy as it sounds...I think I am finally getting better at it after nearly 3 months. I still won't do it out on location if there are others around...that just doesn't feel right.

I know exactly what you mean. Last year in Washington State, I visited a local speedway, Wenatchee Valley Super Oval, and was at the fence with a GoPro, and chatted with the regular 'official' photographer who was filming with his camcorder and giving a running commentary into the camera like a commentator. First time I've seen that and don't think I could do it.

As a casual user with limited abilities I find my results with Luminar 4 are better than LR alone and it is faster. But that's just my take on it.

That's odd. I thought I published the video as "unlisted" rather than "private" but apparently, it was still a "draft". Thanks for the heads-up. I think it's published now if you'd still like to take a look. You'd think at my age I wouldn't care about how I looked to others but I'm just introverted enough that I can't picture myself talking into a camera as I spin around out in public.

I'll just post the link this time. It will be painfully obvious this video is unscripted and unrehearsed.

it worked this time. It sure is tempting...I already have the DJI Osmo Pocket, and when connected to my Rode Mic it does well, just not very wide. I need longer arms...but it won't do for a second B Roll camera or BTS rig...this little one might be easier to wrangle than the A7III but I sure do love the IQ of the full frame.
