Wow - you would think that Adobe just revolutionized the digital photography universe with the way YouTubers are carrying on about this update. Fascinating. The auto ISO preset thing is just piecewise interpolation between the values of the sliders in the NR panel that you have specified for a given ISO. The more ISO's you include, the more control you will have over the interpolation, as it will piecewise interpolate between each ISO value for which there are specified settings. Unfortunately, it does not extrapolate beyond the settings for the highest specified ISO, it uses the NR settings for the highest ISO value for which you specified NR settings.
Now, whether or not simple interpolation gives you the "correct" starting point for an ISO that you did not specify, that remains to be seen. However, LR does no analysis of the noise profile of your camera or some other wizardry to arrive at the ISO specific settings, it just interpolates the slider values between specified ISO values to fill in the blanks. At least that is what happens for my Fujifilm X100V on which I tested this.
Remember, ISO is a logarithmic parameter, so the interpolation looks linear only when you plot slider value as a function of ISO on a log axis for ISO. See attached plot to get an idea of how the new thingy does what it does.
