Connecting 1dx mkii to smartphone via WFT-E6a

Can you use the Canon Connect smartphone app to transfer images from the 1dx mkii to smartphone via WFT-E6a?

I think you mean wft-e8. This will allow wireless transfer of images and remote control of the camera (just like the built-in feature on the 5D mkiv). You install the Canon app on your phone and you are set.

Thanks that's what I was looking for. I've read that the WFT-E6a is also compatible with the 1dx MKii. I have a chance to pick up a used one for much less than the wft-e8a. Would I still be able to connect to the app with this transmitter?

I've answered my own question, I bought the WFT-E6a transmitter. It does work with the 1dx mkii. I can easily connect to my iPhone and control the camera or download images with the Canon Camera Connect app, which is what I was looking for.

Can you provide a quick summary of how you did it? I tried the e6a with my 1dx ii once and couldn't get the canon connect app to work. I have been using a method with shuttersnitch instead.

You enable networking on the camera and choose the Smartphone mode.
Then you connect the phone to the WiFi access point the camera now provides.
Finally, you run the Camera connect application on your phone. Via that, you use the established WiFi connection to connect to the camera, and then you're ready to go.
