@Lester Wareham

Just wanted to let you know that I don't like or comment on your images because I am on satellite internet with limited data usage allowance (no other option where I live).. I never get to see your photos because they are so large and it takes a very long time to download them..sometimes they don't load at all. There are a few other members that I can't see their images either....
So just a friendly note so you and others here do not think that I am rude or something like that.
To all a good day!

Thanks for writing, tbh I don't keep tabs on who likes stuff, it is always nice to see a few likes mounting up however.

I am sorry to hear you have trouble seeing stuff, is it just external linked images or forum server ones?

My workflow for web images from a capture sharpened TIF is essentially:

output sharpen
constrain to 1024x1024 (smaller than the forum maximum)
convert to sRGB
save jpeg compression level 6

This results in files of typically ~100 Kb depending on the detail in them it can very from 60 to <300 kb however, the extremes are rare. I host on my ISP server which seems no slower than anyone else even via a internet connection not of that ISP.

Using my mod super-powers :) I can see your files are typically 70-100 Kb, many others are a similar size to mine.

I don't think there is anything on POTN you can adjust to send down-sampled images (specially externally hosted ones).

If it is a matter of download time you could have two browser windows going (one downloading one being viewed) but if it is a question of the cost of the bytes that will not help.

Couldn't think which other thread he could slither into. :-P

You could start one but traffic would be low, no problem to me as long as the thread starter is happy it is on topic.

Snails are not really "bugs". I don't think an off-topic post occasionally is a big deal, but it would be best to concentrate on small arthropods in this thread. The snail photo is nice and deserves to be posted. You could consider the Non insect macros anyone? or Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM threads. Or you could start a new thread, for example for mollusks. Yes, traffic would be low, but there are some successful low traffic threads at POTN.

You know it could be linked images that give me the problem..I should watch and look into which images don't load.. i.e. linked or forum server..
or maybe my satellite ISP is blocking certain servers or something of that nature. I have had some pretty crazy things to deal with on this satellite internet..

I just notice it more on your images because I spend more time in the macro forum than anywhere else..
I always enjoyed seeing your images before this problem started around 2 years ago, maybe I can pin down the issue and get it resolved at some point.
Thanks Lester

I too have had problems with some photos not loading. They include pics by Lester but also by a small number of other posters. These pics are all linked instead of being hosted by POTN. I find I can view the photo by clicking on the link, however.

Some people have noted add blockers may be causing this, if using one disable the add blocker and see if that is the source of the problem.

I asked Pekka about this and he says:

Under each thread there is a setting for limiting display size of embedded images. Click the glasses (x 1600 y 1600) icon next to AAa icon. Setting is stored in a cookie.

When image exceeds that size, click it and it will load.

Excellent, exchanging stomach contents ? (they do this, I am not being gross for the sake of it, although that is a good reason too).

Works for me! One seemed to be extruding sp? A sweet liquid that both wanted, after watching way too long. lol

Thanks Lester!
