I took about half the stray hairs out of this one. Not a fan of the harsh back lighting and soft images but what a client wants they get.

I like the look when done well. I always try to tell women to bring a brush so that they can brush the hair just a bit when shooting like this. It helps control the hair a bit.

Just a couple more.

the last one behind the fence, maybe have his eyes inside the holes i the fence and not cut off by the fencing.

We had a brush, but it was a 2 sandbag to hold my light stand from blowing over kind of day. I'm thinking maybe hair spray but then you lose that ability for the hair to flow freely. I do like a bit of wind blowing but it was crazy that day here. Here's a couple SOOC when the wind was blocked some and I'm completely OK with these stray hairs.

A couple more SOOC on another 2 sandbag kind of windy day. They had to shoot at 3:30 with the sun directly overhead.

This is Drew, class of 2021. Hot day in Texas it was!! I still have one young lady for 2020 to shoot in a few days if the protests calm down in Dallas.

Here's a couple more of Drew. I know I'm changing the white balance on these but I'm trying to set specific moods for certain shots.

While I'm not a fan of harsh backlighting, or lens flare is even worse for my taste, but a soft image works well on female portraits. I know it's a bit old school, but never-the-less many client's like it. Plus, it's a great way to benefit portraits of older women :) It works very well in this portrait IMHO.

I'm glad that I was able to get to do yearbook photos this year, as my daughter is graduating next year. But along with the yearbook, I also swap out the background and get a nice moody photo for both the guys and girls. Here's the latest I finished up today (not my daughter).

I really like the pose and the soft image. I do have a question for my own learning curve: why f10 and 400 ISO? Was it that you intended the original background to contribute to the composition?

Thank you for sharing your BTS video, I always find such videos so helpful. I'm trying to better perfect my hss flash in the sun. Do you remember what your flash was set around on these?

Thanks and your welcome.

No and it's different for every set up. I set my ambient up to what I want and then get the flash power to where I need it. It's often around 1/2 power on the 600 and the battery has never gave out on me yet.

Here's my most recent one. I switched to 2 evolve 200's in the AB-D2 or what ever it is and when I had to go to HSS it was again around 1/2 power give or take. They didn't seem to mind running at that power either and were both almost fully charged still when I got done.

These 2 were HSS. I was in the woods for several of her shots and didn't need it.

Emri - Class of 2021
Emri let me try out my new camera, the EOS R. I couldn't do HSS with it (Flashpoint Xplor 600) as I didn't know I needed to update my trigger firmware till I got back home. Live and learn I guess.
