This is a pretty quiet thread! I recently picked up a used 180 macro, and there was nice dew on the spider webs this morning.

Image editing ok; C&C always welcome.

Taken with (EOS R) + (EF-EOS R Mount adapter ) + (EF 25mm Ext Tube) + (Extender EF 1.4X Mk III) + (Canon 180mm F3.5 L Macro Lens) which is a nice, albeit longish, combination, allowing me to stand back from the nest and compose the scene on the flippy screen.

#1 is a stack of 3 shots with the AF Point placed on each Wasp in turn to extend the DOF - the flippy screen and touch focus really makes this feasible.

#2 is a single shot at the native focal length of 180mm, just the bare lens.

Cheers

Dennis

This resting Paper Wasp was taken with the bare lens on the EOS-R.

The quality of these photos is excellent. How much working distance did this setup allow? ( the long setup with extension tube, helicon, tC etc )

Hi Larry

I had the lens hood on the 180mm F3.5L and I estimate I the front of the lens hood was some 10-15 cms from the cluster of berries where the Paper Wasps were snoozing and I wasn't quite at the closest focus distance.

Cheers

Dennis

These were 40 frame sets taken with the Helicon FB Tube and stacked in Helicon Soft.

Compared to my Canon 100mm F2.8L Macro I had previously found the Canon 180mm F3.5L Macro lens to be very slow at auto-focusing and so gave up trying on moving insects, relegating it to tripod mounted shooting.

However, when I fitted it to my Canon EOS R6 and gave it a trial run in the back garden this morning, it seemed to AF a bit faster and more reliably, so there may well some life left in the old dog yet.:-)

Taken with the Canon EOS R6 using the Canon EF-EOS R mount adapter.

Cheers

Dennis
