Here's my take on the DIY camera remote/cable release. Total Cost: $0 (since I already have the switches).

All you need is a stereo sub-mini jack (3/32"), 2 switches, and a case of some sort. I used an old film canister as the case in keeping with the photography theme.

The side button functions as an "auto-focus" button and the top button functions as the "shoot" button. You hold the film canister like a joystick, using your finger and thumb for the buttons.

If you're interested, I have DIY instructions here... (external link)

Awesome Idea FiveFish... Just one problem, it isn't compatible with the 20D is it, Would it be possible to use a different end so it is compatible

I think there are like three pins on the 20D plug. I bought one of those ADIDT remotes on EBay, and it came from Hong Kong and works great.

that will only work the the dRebs, everything else has that proprietary connector. A lot of people will buy that ADIDT one just for steal the jack off of it.

Can't you just buy one of the jacks compatible with the 20D and wire it up the same way or won't that work?
