Hiya,

Not for this one. The train was going a fair lick. I definitely had a play with the levels in the raw editor to bring out the detail and did the high pass tick to sharpen it...

RAIL CHARTER SERVICES (external link) in the UK recently started running a dedicated summer tourist train from Skipton to Appleby and return on the famous Settle/Carlisle line, appropriately named "The Staycation Express".

Here it is running through Kirkby Stephen with 47 593 "Galloway Princess" on the front and 37521 on the rear.

I think that photo has everything in it a train photo needs. You've got blue sky and nice clouds, a stone bridge in the background, an historic stone train station in the foreground, historic looking lamp posts, hills, nice scenery, good light, great composition and... a neat looking train.

Is that a rock wall on top of the hill up there, or something else and historic?

Totally agree. That is an absolute stunner of an image. Calm peaceful idyllic picturesque everything about the image is lovely.

Stuart I agree with others. That was my instant impression.
Just beautiful.
Not a criticism on this one, but wondering if you have an old steam train running through there?
This shows how old and new can meld together. Function and purpose hasn't changed at all, just a different delivery - modern engine.

Thanks for the comments, very kind.

That is in fact a dry stone wall at the top of the hill, the Dales National Park is littered with them.

If there is one thing that spoils it for me it's the digital sign obscuring one of the period gas lamps. (can't win them all)

There was a steam a steam excursion running as well, unfortunately with the weather being so hot there was no exhaust, see below.

Had a visit to the newly reopened North York Moors Railway this week. Found a bit of a problem with having to wear a face covering everywhere on the station in that as soon as I put the camera up to my eye the eyepiece misted up! I didn’t take anywhere near as many photos as I had hoped to. The temperature was in the mid 30s degrees C so that didn’t help with the misting up!

This is ex Southern Region type S15 Number 825. Built in 1927 and withdrawn from service in 1964 it now runs on the North York Moors Railway.
