One thing I've noticed playing with sample images is that the new AA filter allows more sharpening without the sharpening causing unnatural-looking artifacts. I don't think that the AA filter is actually sharper per se, but rather, it is more sharpening-friendly. Consequently, the DIGIC JPEG engine and DPP are probably sharpening R5 images more at the pixel level, by default.

I'll have to look take a closer look at that. I used my normal process and was too stunned by the resolution and colour, which I really like. I have read that some people had to pull sharpening back from what they were used to.

I have been reading about some R5 exposure concerns. ⅔ stop darker than the R. Not that this will make any difference to my purchasing it but I like to verify these things.

No problem at all to recompose. It stays right with the eye as you move up down or side to side.

I did it for years. With my R I use the LCD to move the AF point around and programmed the AF point selection button to put it back to centre.

I was going to mention reading that, but I also would think that since animal AF is so smart, re-composition should be a breeze, without the problems associated with it with pre-animal-AF systems that don't remember or recognize what they were focused on.

It normally is, unless you're shooting a giraffe or cheetah and the camera keeps looking at their spots. ;)

Shooting a grey card, or using an evaluative metering with a more complex scene?

I was walking in the woods close to my house this morning. I don’t think I saw a single bird.

Great shots. You're loving that R5 (way more than the 90D).

Thank you, I like it a lot more than the 90D. The AF system works very well.
