Beautifully composed shot, SYS! It's got a lot of neat stuff going on.

Thanks, Mike, now that my Cosmoses are seeding, my yard is really popular with Lesser Goldfinches.... :-)

Thats a really lovely Jay up close SYS.

Thanks, Neal, these, too, have been visiting me on a daily basis. I've only been seeing these visiting my yard since last summer, none before in my 18 years of residence here.

Thank you!

This is gorgeous, and an entirely new bird to me! Thanks for sharing

That is a cool looking Cardinal. I've never heard of this bird.

We hadn't either until that trip; it's always fun running into new ones like that :)

Scrumhalf wrote in post #19115564 (external link)
The word "cardinal" is one of the most misused in avian nomenclature. The red-crested cardinal is actually a tanager and isn't even closely related to the Cardinals of the mainland.

Ironically, many tanagers are actually Cardinals and are placed in Cardinalidae.

What a mess!

Well, today I learned a thing...interesting info, man; thanks!

I believe this may be an American Black Duck x Mallard hybrid.
