There are many horses at the Rose Parade. They have crews of people picking up the road apples.
They often get a big cheer from the parade spectators...

Beautiful images. Lovely old planes.
That lower one looks a bit scary.
Is he cranking the prop to start it? (ouch??)
Upper one looks lot safer :-)

They might be making sure the lower cylinders are clear of oil so they aren't damaged from hydraulic lock during starting. Oil sometimes gets into the lower cylinders via various routes. If the volume of oil is greater than the cylinder volume at the top of the compression stroke, there's going to be a damaged connecting rod and other damage. If they find oil, they remove the spark plugs to drain it out.

Thanks. Breath easy now and don't wince when I look at that. :-)
Certainly something of significance and not to be overlooked.

Psst, they're called slicks. They're made of soft, sticky rubber that heats up and grips the track like you wouldn't believe. Unless it's raining.

Thanks. Somehow that information was left out of the curriculum when I went to school.

nice shots. It's neat to be able to see the P51 air-frame with the cowling off.
