Blue Angels and Herons can coexist. This guy has amazing swallowing talents! That's a BIG fish.

As much as I like action photography, sometimes it is nice to get out the tripod and slow down. Here are two with my much loved 400mm f/2.8L IS II which I am selling to upgrade, checkout my listing in the classified section if you are interested.

Everyone updated to the new firmware yet? Just checking if anyone has any feedback on the "improved headtracking at distance". If not, I have some cricket cup semi final games coming up on Saturday so I will see if theres any significant changes to note.

During Covid, I added video to the things I offer swimmers. Mostly for recruiting, but some have done it for the memory. Anyway, here's the last one I did.

Was so disappointed when they cancelled their Pensacola Beach and Homecoming Airshows in Pensacola. With the Naval Aviation Museum closed because of base security concerns they have also stopped letting you watch the teams practices from the Naval Air Station tarmac. Practices are still going on, but there is no schedule so its hit or miss. Things all worked out in my favor Wednesday:). Had a boat, good weather, and they were flying a North/South airshow pattern (unusual, it's usually East/West). So I was stalking some Osprey's near the ocean pass when I heard them start up. Anyway - meant I also got some shots I wouldn't get during an Airshow at Center Point.

I uploaded it on Saturday and it performed very well on Sunday during a studio shoot. I felt it grabbed the head much better and quicker. But I have no empirical evidence to support this ߘ

Well, wouldn't you know it? Stopped by the ole camera store today and the guy in front of me was returning a tried overnight R5. Wasn't my turn on the list, but after calling 8-10 people and then having it go out only to be returned, my ability to open my wallet right then sent it to a new home - MINE!!

Now to really test it and decide if it can replace one of my 1DxIIIs for swim meets and be the go-to for portraits and underwater work.

Can't wait to see your conclusions. I've been saving for a 1DXIII to replace my 1DXII but I'm now thinking I should get the R5 instead so am VERY interested in what you decide.

You really can't go wrong with either camera. Owning both I prefer the R5 for wildlife due to the focus and cropping ability. I also enjoy full silent mode which the 1dx Mark III can do but tougher to handhold without a loupe (which still can be tough depending on the lens). I think if I only did sports I may stay with the 1dx Mark III. I think one as a photographer needs to make a list of needs/wants and see what each has to offer. I actually sold a 1dx Mark III in favor of the R5. Amy is using the 1dx Mark III still while I am using the R5's. So we have the best of both worlds and can compare. The biggest advantage is the 45mp vs 20mp seeing we are both using the same lenses most of the time at similar distances.
