We kind of take it for granted here that there’s nothing out there that can really kill us when out and about in the hills etc. It’s not until I hear you guys talking about gators, bears, spiders and snakes that it hits home

indeed we are quite safe, I think Cows are our biggest killer I would not go in a field if there around.

I had to walk within 2 metres of some cows on Saturday whilst on the Quantocks as they were right by the gate!

One of our more local hills leading to a woodland sometimes has horses and cows roaming. The cows are those big square ones. One misty morning we walked right through a group of about 8 before we even saw them!

On the hike down last night I had to be keenly aware of my surroundings...I made a point of talking loudly to myself all the way down. There are bears up in that area. It was too cold for the Rattlesnakes already, they were not going to be out last night.

One image from last night. I don't know how the timelapses turned out yet. Still sorting. I got home at 1AM and had everything downloaded by 2 AM.

Beautiful place. There is a guy on Fuji forum at FM who posts Mt. Rainier shots. Has lot of spring flowers.

I spent my 20’s and early 30’s living at 9000 feet in a Colorado ski town. Tons of black bears but no grizzlies anywhere in the state. They are more northern... Eastern Idaho, Wyoming, northern Idaho, Montana. I’m glad my stomping grounds here in central Idaho are still grizzly free....at least we think so!

I'm curious if you had any problem focusing to infinity with the Batis lens? I have the Batis 25/f2 lens but haven't tried it for night skies.

nope, none at all...in fact, the OLED on both the B18 and B25 are the best for shooting at night. Both of mine hit critical focus just as it turns over to infinity on the scale. It makes it so easy. I used both of them last night, the B18 was on the A7III doing timelapse and I had the B25 on the a9 doing stills, star trails and a timelapse.

I had a black bear here in Arizona follow me..... I kept smelling him but didnt see him I did a big circle and came back to a spot and there was scat (poop) right where I had been shooting. I kept smelling and hearing him for the next half hour but he never showed himself.

My archaeologist buddy went to an area I had been shooting the day before with petroglyphs in the cliffs and jumped down a boulder to a landing and almost landed on a cougar..... That didnt move just growled until he backed off. I came across a Bobcat and he ignored me until I followed him beyond his patience ..... he stopped growled and I just backed off..... should have never followed him.

I am more worried about Killer Bees and Snakes and yes the range cattle are not like field cows they rarely see people and are quite territorial when they want to be

I used to hike in grizzly country (N Idaho) and was blissfully unaware until i saw scratch-marks about 8 feet up on a tree and heard about an attack.... not a fan of Griz

Mostly these guys wont do anything unless you scare them and with bags I weigh in at 300 lbs so they generally know I am comming. This guy wanted to cross the path and he didn't even rattle at me until I walked behind him.

I could think of a few city centres, that you might not be safe on.

Animals are out there for sure. A few years ago a friend and I hiked to Grotto Falls in the Smokies. On the way back there was a fresh pile of scat in the middle of the trail...it wasn't there when we arrived! That same trip we were out shooting stars in Cades Cove, kept hearing something behind me...turned my light on and there was a coyote less than 10 feet away...pretty sure he wanted the beef jerky that was in my pack. It took a lot to scare him off...we could hear the pack of them later.

I have only ever seen one gator at Lake Moultrie...and well...it saw me too. I was on the shore and saw something moving out in the water, zoomed in and it was a gator...and I noticed that it was coming right at me...straight line. I moved 100 yards downshore...he adjusted his trajectory. I decided the sunset was a total bust and left.

I don't usually think about it too much.

My 18 and 25 were the same when I had them, really handy in the dark

I tested my Batis 18 since the repair and it appears sharp right at infinity. I remember when I shot the Milky Way in Death Valley with Travis, I had to manual focus before the infinity mark.
