I have never found a use for this, am I missing something?

Not important, it just crossed my mind as I was going through a box of of never used accessories in my closet. My first real camera was a Canon F1. That was a long time ago.

Personally, I don't use ETTL for off camera flash so it never occurred to me. I also use the stand to secure the flash to a lightstand via the threads on the bottom, using a threaded pin and grip head. VanillaImaging.com
