Nice shot, Tom; don't think I've seen one of these before.

Hi Eric...thanks for the comment. Harris's Hawks are fairly common around the less developed areas of Scottsdale/Phoenix.

Banging shot, background nice and smooth, perfect stage set for the star of the show :) Do your Fairy Wrens and other birds have breeding seasons where they put on their colorful plumage, and then go back to drab a few months later? I seem to recall your FWs over the past few weeks not being as colorful, but now the males are showing the brilliant blue.

Thanks Matthew. The backdrop is a wattle tree in a blaze of golden glory, so it's pure Tasmania :-P
I'd not seen fully coloured males until a few weeks ago and some are still in various stages of change.
And the deep blue ones were very elusive but are more settled now.

Yes their plumage changes during breeding, but it's erratic, not always same and some retain full colour all year apparently.
I posted some images a while back and others added to the Fairy Wrens too
Plumage changes

Here's a ink if interested in research, with citizens participating in plumage changes etc of the Fairy Wrens
The Wren Project (external link)
It's worth a peak even just to see these Purple-crowned Fairywren (external link) Our Wrens are many and varied.

Our Yellow Wattlebird has wattles that increase in size when breeding, but main plumage colours is constant.
I think some wild ducks change but that's not my area.
