I woke up kinda early for me, looked outside and saw a tiny sliver of the moon. Cool!

Went out side set up the tripod to take a few pictures, but I was losing darkness very fast. This is the best I got but not very sharp like I wish it was, because I was running out of time and darkness.

Interesting story, during the game i at, there was a flock of these, probably 30 or so that we circling the area, sometimes coming down close, sometimes way off into the distance.

So that shot was one of extreme patience, keeping both eyes open so I could track them as I kept focus on the moon, and I waited. :)

I wanted a second one where I tracked focus on the bird to have the moon OOF behind then but that was the only one I could captured.

Taken with the Canon EOS Ra + RF 85mm f/1.2L USM lens (POTN still hasn't added the EOS Ra or the RF 85mmL lens to the Gear Listso I have to tag the camera as an EOS R)

Thought I might be able to capture a thin crescent moon within the Milky Way without too many complications on Monday. It looked like it would be thin enough to work with. But it was still incredibly bright and the freezing mountain wind had me packing up within a few minutes after arriving.

I managed to capture a couple of shots of the Galactic Core... and a shot of the moon in the added slice (with the moon in frame)... with some Earth-shine and diffraction throwoff in the highlights. At least I got something for the 4 hours of driving back and forth. Caught a few other celestial subjects on the way home from a more sheltered location but this was my so-called "moon-shot" for the evening.
