That's a beauty, Tom! I hope to see a Gambel's quail in the wild, one day.

Hi Mike...

Thanks for the nice comment. According to Google Maps, it's only a 9 hour drive from Fresno to Phoenix. If you someday want to make the trip, let me know. I can "guarantee" you many opportunities to photograph Gambel's Quail.

Thank you very much for your generous offer. I will certainly think about it a lot. A nine hour drive would be pretty tough for me these days. Ten years ago, I'd a jumped all over it. But I would truly like to get the chance to photograph them.

These guys are adorable, Mike; love the ornament there :D. However, I do believe you've got Blue-gray Gnatcatchers there, rather than Bushtits. The distinct eye ring being the primary clue, plus the much longer bill and white bars on the wings and black tails. See side by side here:

Thank you for pointing that out, Eric. Man, I sure was off on that shot. I surely do appreciate it when people correct me when I'm wrong. So many of of the smaller birds are a struggle for me.

I stared at this photo for several minutes looking at all the detail that you were able to capture. It's truly amazing how you are able to get shots like this so frequently.
