Nice set Colin, hard to beat a damp sunny morning at the 'heath when they are using rwy 06.

...and they bank while departing. Then all is well in my world.

Oh yeah - not every one but there's plenty of "showmen/women" who give us topside...

Was you there for the Makos in May last year? They were amazing both on departure and when they returned to base after a a sortie - lots of high speed low approaches and topside pull ups past the photographers, really was like an airshow.

Indeed I was. The difference between reservists and active duty units I suspect.

Yeah, I recall from a website I used to frequent a few years ago, that was all about the Concorde, that this was a tremendous engineering challenge. IIRC the air would stall at or within the intakes.

thats what made the A-12/SR-71/YF-12 such a great plane...

the now declassified shock cones that moved forward and aft to keep the shock wave out of the compressor blades gave it blistering speed...

should a misalignment occur and the engine get choked by the shock wave, the "unstart" could be rather unsettling...

-im just trying. sometimes i succeed

Sand Point, Alaska airport circa 1973. At that time it was served by Reeve Aleutian Airlines DC-3s, surplus bombers bought from the U.S. Air Force after WW2 and converted to passenger use. I was stuck there in a storm and had to wait for three days until this plane could land and take me out.

Nikkormat 35 mm SLR, digitized from a slide.

wasn't sure where to post this interesting piece of history
Never thought about how one bought a plane in early days - 1927 to be exact

Well... getting a bit desperate now! This was taken with my iPhone whilst flying over RAF Fairford in the south of England. A US Air Force B52 sat at a dispersal point. On the same flight I was vectored to avoid a AN-124 taking off from RAF Brize Norton... just too far away to get a decent picture with the iPhone!

It always surprises me of how little the general world know about Embraer aircraft.

That's a nice looking kite!

Ah, but they are Brazilian. And we in the North tend to be pretty ignorant of what happens in the South.
