Check out this video of a Grizzly taking down a bull Elk this week. Wowzers from me. Right along the road. You can hear the rangers at the 4:00 mark telling people to get in the cars......I have seen grizzys at Yellowstone...but none this aggressive and none this close to the roads

Crazy

Use lots of caution this fall

An actual BC Fish & Wildlife sign seen in 2008:

"Due to the frequency of human-bear encounters, the B.C. Fish and Wildlife Branch is advising hikers, hunters, fishermen and any persons that use the out of doors in a recreational or work related function to take extra precautions while in the field.

"We advise the outdoorsman to wear little noisy bells on clothing so as to give advanced warning to any bears that might be close by so you don’t take them by surprise.

"We also advise anyone using the out-f-doors to carry “Pepper Spray” with him is case of an encounter with a bear.

"Outdoorsmen should also be on the watch for fresh bear activity, and be able to tell the difference between black bear feces and grizzly bear feces. Black bear feces is smaller and contains lots of berries and squirrel fur. Grizzly bear **** has bells in it and smells like pepper."

I watched a video of a bear pulling open forcefully and bending the door of an automobile which had the scent of food inside. Very formidable!

I was in Denali last summer with my wife for a 5 day backpacking trip. We didn't see any Grizzly's until the last day when we were hiking out. We were almost to the road when a large Grizzly came out from behind a bush about 10 yards away. That got my heart rate going, especially as there had been a previous bear mauling fatality right in the location we were when we saw the bear. The bear gave us a glance and carried on its way.

Bears can be dangerous. Be sure to roll-up all 4 windows.

Left eye closed and the right eye looking through the viewfinder makes a blind spot.

This is some of the craziest s!#t I've ever seen. Thank you for posting. A little tough to watch, but it's nature. Has anyone seen the video of the jogger in Utah backing away form a mountain lion? Yikes! Now some poor hiker is missing in Utah. Before I saw that video I would have suspected foul play, but now??

As a sports photographer, I was told early on to keep both eyes open by successful guys. For instance: camera aimed at pitcher, left eye watching home plate. This might help here! Not easy to teach yourself to do it, I still have to remind myself when to do it & not.

When in any sort of Bear country I carry my Canon as well as my Smith & Wesson .44 Magnum when in the woods.

I just have black bears here, and didn't carry.
I met a hunter last year that wounded a bear in the area I was in, and decided a sidearm might not be a bad idea.
