What editing software are you'll using for the R5? I'm still on LR6 and I know I have to make a move soon.

I'm on LR5, not CC or any of the "rental" software, since Adobe has blocked downloading v6 and I got a new computer. So, I use Adobe DNG converter for .CR3 files, then import the DNGs into LR5. Yes, it's another step in the workflow, but it's reasonably fast with the new system, and it avoids paying monthly for something I've already bought. No, I don't need all the latest goodies to do my editing.

Methodical will answer but I've been using LR Classic (LrC) since it went subscription in 2018. It is now LR9.4 and PS is 21.2.4. Adobe updated RAW support for the R5/6 in 3 weeks after they were released. So did C1 Pro. I also have DXO PL3 and there has been no RAW support yet. PL4 will be coming out in about 2 weeks and I expect you have to get it for R5/6 RAW support. They won't see a dime of my money. I don't know about other software.

FYI. If you go subscription LrC won't offer Canon Colour Profiles. LR/PS has not offered them for any cameras that have CR3 files. Something going on between Canon and Adobe and those who know won't say. Finger pointing at both companies speculating as to why but no actual facts. I'm finding the new Adobe colours for the R5 pleasing so I'm working them for now. The new default is Adobe Colour that has more life to it than Adobe Colour. If you want Canon colours this site has good profiles. The author put a lot of time into matching Canon profiles for the R5/6. I got it but I find myself using Adobe Colour - for now.

$15 for a set of profiles (per camera).

Here is a list of updates since LR6.

The latest which is ISO Dependant Presets is pretty cool. Basically you set up NR, etc for a 100 ISO file and for example a 32,000 ISO file. You create a preset based on those two files and LR will automatically apply the correct settings for each file imported within the low and high ISO range. You can use more than one file for more precision.

For BIF situations, I've not noticed differences in focusing performance on the R5 with or without eye AF. Has anyone else?

I had an issue today, looking for some advice.

I use a Black Rapid R strap. It is what I've used for years. Most of my paid work is senior portraits, some event work. When I'm out on a session, if I'm not acting shooting, I'm carrying a light stand or other things while the camera rests at my side. The Black Rapid R strap has been flawless for my needs and workflow for years until today.

I've found that the EF-R adapter can easily become unlocked if the camera is on my hip. I usually have the Black Rapid Strap tethered to my 70-200 collar. So today unfortunately the EF-R adapter came unlocked and my R5 hit the ground. Luckily the camera is perfectly fine besides some scratches.

So I'm looking to find out -
1. Has anyone else had this issue with the EF-R adapter.
2. If you're a portrait / event shooter using a strap, what kind of strap you're using.

Thanks.

I hate straps that let the camera twist and dangle so freely. That's why I still use conventional straps that attach to the camera at two points. It took an awful lot of twisting and dangling to pull the slide lock back and then start twisting the lens while holding the slide lock back. With that kind of 2-axis pressure happening, particularly "easily," I'd consider that a fault of the strap rather than the adapter.

I've been using BR straps since they came out, and I have never mounted mine anywhere except on a grip or the camera body itself. When I've used my 70-200 2.8, which I have on many occasions; I always keep my right hand on my camera whenever I can, which is most of the time. So far, I've never had a problem.

I never use the foot on lenses for anything to mount to anything. The camera is supposed to be strong enough to hold the lenses the manufacturer makes for it. You may disagree with that, and I admittedly don't have anything any heavier, but it has served me well.

I have been using my Black Rapid strap for years, first on the 5D3, then the 5D4 and now the R5 - mostly together with the EF24-105L. Very early on I had one accident with the strap getting off the camera because I had not tightened the lock on the clasp.
I cannot understand why the EF-R adapter woud loose itself from the body more easily than a lens as it involves the same push button. It only can happen when the strap passes in front of the camera body. May be you shouldn't attach the strap to the collar? The 70-200 is not that heavy so it would not put too much stress on the lens mount.
When I have the strap on a lens collar - like with my Sigma 150-600 I always hold the camera body in my hand while walking to avoid too much swinging. Also the distance between point where the strap is attached and the camera body (and that release button) is bigger so that reduces the risk.

Years ago, I had a similar situation and someone here on POTN pointed me to a great solution. I use Op/Tech straps as safety straps to attach both the lens and the body to my BlackRapid strap. Here's a photo; ask questions if it's not clear.

I'm a big fan of the Op-tec Uni-loops.
I use the Kirk Security Strap for all my big rigs and use the insurance plan e.g. the Uni-Loops, to the camera
and the lens. Here's one set up-

I'm more worried about the Kirk Security Strap's plate coming loose from the lens (though it has never happened after countless miles walked with the rig in the small of my back)
than I am the camera coming loose from the lens or TC or adapter but given enough Uni-Loops both camera and lens can be attached to the strap of the Kirk.

...I've found that the EF-R adapter can easily become unlocked if the camera is on my hip...

Just to confirm, the adapter came off the body and not the lens came off the adapter, correct? So, you are saying that using the strap, all the movement and twisting, via the strap, can make the adapter come loose easily?

I've also use the BR straps since they came out (still using the original version) and always connect it to the lens foot because it hangs parallel to the ground vs the camera body which makes it sit awkward for me and it never binds causing undue pressure on any part of the camera; it twists freely, so not to cause it to loosen itself from the foot. , I mostly have my hand on the foot to keep if from banging against my leg, but it swings freely when I am carrying the 600 on the tripod and the 100-400 on the side. I always double check to make sure the lens or in this case the adapter has clipped in and I give it a couple twists. I use the BR strap in this manner with the 600 f4, 300 2.8, 100-400...with and without TCs; any lens with a foot.

It sounds like with the camera and lens banging against your body, it caused the the adapter to come loose. Perhaps the R5 connection point s not as robust as the old Dslrs in that regard. I will keep an eye out for that.

I'm guessing the lens must have come off the adapter, because the adapter comes off the body in exactly the same way a lens would.

If that's the case, then I can't see how the strap would cause the adapter to come off, especially if it's on the foot because it comes nowhere near the camera body. Plus, you have to press a smooth flat button (similar to the DOF button) on the camera body that sits just on the side of the adapter and it takes some effort to remove; it doesn't have the lever type release button. I can see maybe it knocking the lens loose from the adapter because it has an elevate lever (like a TC) where something could catch onto it, but you still have hold the lever forward and twist the lens to get it off. But, again, with the strap connected to the foot, it never comes near the camera body. Perhaps, the adapter was not attached to the body tightly...didn't click in all the way.

Correct, the lens came off the adapter. If you're using just about any kind of sling strap and the camera is at your side you're likely to unlock the lens from the adapter.

Then that's an extreme amount of twisting and bouncing going on...which is why I don't like those things.

I'm still awaiting a backordered R5, but I already have an adapter and I don't understand how the EF lens could disconnect from the adapter due to motion while suspended on a BR strap, since it locks onto the lens and requires a button push to unlock it.

I'm not doubting your word and experience, in fact I thank you for cautioning us all about this. I'm just trying to figure out how it's happening. And I hope Canon folks are, too.

I frequently use BR straps for event photography work. I especially like their two-camera shoulder harness for its even distribution of the cameras' weight, so this topic has my attention.
