As for the RRS/Kirk plate and clamp it has never come loose so I removed the Optic back ups which were a pain. The screws provide a stop if it ever did. Now my primary strap is the Peak Design Slide which has been flawless. Just make sure to use version 4 Anchors.

Correct, the lens came off the adapter. If you're using just about any kind of sling strap and the camera is at your side you're likely to unlock the lens from the adapter.

If the twisting of the strap caused the lens to release, then either the R5 adapter connection point is weak or the lens was not properly secured to the adapter. Those are the only 2 reasons I see where it can be released.

Also, I disagree with your theory that a sling strap will likely cause the unlocking of the lens from the adapter for a few reasons. First, the strap never ever comes near the lens release mechanism, 2nd I've used this method for many years with the 100-400, 300 2.8 and 600 f4 lens and never had a body or lens disconnect and lastly, you testified in your original post that you've used sling straps for years and it has been flawless until just now with the R5. So, either the R5 adapter connection point is weak or the lens was not properly secured to the adapter.

In the past, there were incidents where the strap connection point broke loose and caused the strap to separate from the camera or lens foot. BR fixed that weak point.

No I didn't say that. It wasn't the strap itself. It was the position the strap leaves the camera when you're not holding it.
I said if the camera is at your hip the switch on the EF-R lens adapter sticks out enough that allows it to get easily unlocked by your clothes.

I've found that the EF-R adapter can easily become unlocked if the camera is on my hip. I usually have the Black Rapid Strap tethered to my 70-200 collar. So today unfortunately the EF-R adapter came unlocked and my R5 hit the ground. Luckily the camera is perfectly fine besides some scratches.

So I'm looking to find out -
1. Has anyone else had this issue with the EF-R adapter.
2. If you're a portrait / event shooter using a strap, what kind of strap you're using.

Thanks.

While I do have the EF-R adapter, I can't answer to 1. as I'm still waiting for the R5.

As for 2., I do own and use the Black Rapid and the Peak Design Slide straps, both modified with the ProMediaGear SS2p1 Plug connector for instantaneous connection to all of my PMG plates and L-brackets. I use the Black Rapid more as a safety tether when I'm outdoors shooting birds with my gear on a monopod. When I'm shooting events and portraits, however, I go exclusively with the PD Slide. I never carry my gear in such manner that it bounces around. I prefer to carry it with least free movement. With the PD Slide, I can achieve that by sliding it up snug and tight around my mid-rib area as opposed to my hip level but still allowing me to pull up and shoot without any impediment.

When I do need to shoot and move things around, such as lightstands and softboxes, etc., then I use the Spider Holster SpiderPro clip attached to the Think Tank ProSpeed Belt around my waist for hands free operations.

I'll pay a close attention to your issues once I receive the R5, but I can't imagine that I'll be faced with the same issues given the way I shoot with minimal gear movements.

Exactly two measured millimeters. The strap would have to be wrapped tightly around the lens barrel to pull it back against the spring pressure and the lens would have to be turned 90 degrees at the same moment.

All this stuff about the strap belongs on a different topic. Thanks.

Got a call from the camera store today. Sounds like they are getting a shipment this week and one will be mine. Timing is almost perfect since I'm heading to the coast on a photo trip soon.

Woot for you. I still (B&H) have not a clue as to when I'll see this model. In the mean time I'll keep plodding along with the Sony gears, Fuji too.

So DP, being in more northerly climes, do you find the F7.1 on the 100-500 restricting in any way? Or with the R5, you can just bump up the ISO and be fine?

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

No I used LR for my editing. I use Topaz for more troublesome shots but not with this one. Adobe recently introduced ISO Adaptive Presets. You edit files at low and high ISO's, create a preset and it automatically applies NR at import, base on that files ISO. It also applies my sharpening, texture, clarity, dehaze and lens correction preferences. I just pressed the Auto button of the basic adjustments and exported it. Auto or also known as Sensei is AI and it corrects the basics like black and white clipping, etc.

These are my import settings.

This is what it applied at import. I'm still tuning it.

This is weird. Both LR and DPP show ISO 10,000 and POTN shows it as 12,800. I exported the file again just to be sure.
