Hello folks,
I have couple of questions as a former Canon shooter who is trying to familiarize himself with Sony.

1. Is there a way to set up the camera using C1, C2, C3 modes for different shooting styles? e.g. I would like to have C1 assigned to landscape shooting where I will have default ISO100, shutter release delayed by 2 seconds etc. while having other modes for different styles. I somehow struggle with this as for example I use M mode for portraiture where I have e.g. ISO400, fast shutter speed but the moment I switch to C1 there is no longer ISO100 set but ISO400 etc.

2. When shooting in portrait orientation once previewing the image and zooming in it never holds portrait orientation in the preview. Is there a way to overcome this so preview once zoomed in is not in landscape orientation?

3. When using Auto-ISO I have noticed that if an image is overexposed the exposure compensation dial does not always does the job. E.g. I switch it to -1 but the picture is still overexposed and I achieve right exposure only when I use higher f-stop (please note that the camera in these cases picked higher ISO e.g. ISO800) however if I shoot portraiture and I want my background to be blurred I don't really want to compensate by using higher f-stop. I would assume that the camera should rather use lower ISO but this is not the case. Any advice how to overcome this strange behavior?

thanks
lukas

I have this camera but not sure what you mean by C1, C2 and C3 modes? Ci's are buttons which can be customized and be assigned a function from the menu system. I think you are talking about memory modes on the exposure mode dial : 1, 2 and 3 where you can program the entire camera for a specific shooting setup, right?

Hi there mate,
you are absolutely right! I meant 1, 2, 3 on the shooting mode dial.
Thank you for your correction.

Regarding the first issue, have you programmed these memories? I have for example set up the first memory to ISO 200 and whenever I switch to that memory setting, the ISO is automatically set to 200 regardless of its initial value.

Regarding the Auto ISO question, here is what happens on my camera. I set the live view setting to on so I see the effect on the camera screen. If the camera is in Auto ISO mode, when I change EC dial, the camera does the exposure compensation by changing the ISO value. However, if the camera is set to a fixed ISO value, in Aperture priority mode, the exposure compensation dial changes the exposure value by changing the shutter speed and in Shutter speed priority, it does so by changing the aperture value. I find the behavior reasonable.

Thank you mate.
#1 seems OK now, not sure if I have done something wrongly but there is still one thing that bothers me. I would like to have custom buttons programmed differently in different user preferred mode. e.g. in mode 1 which I use for Landscape, I would prefer having C1 button for zoom when manually focussing. However when shooting in M (manual) I would like to have a different function to be assigned to C1. Is there a way to achieve this?

Any idea how to overcome #2?

Regarding #3 - Auto ISO - I will have to retest but it never worked for me to use exposure dial, always had to use faster shutter speed or smaller aperture (higher aperture number) in M mode

Sorry, I was preoccupied with other affairs. That's why it's taken me so long to answer. Regarding #2, I just checked on my own camera. In portrait orientation mode, once zoomed in, the main image still remains in portrait orientation. I guess you are talking about the little thumbnail on the corner that indicates the location of the zoomed box in the whole image. That box is in landscape orientation. I don't think it's possible to change the thumbnail into portrait orientation too. Personally it does not bother me. I hope I correctly understood what you meant.

Hi mate,
thank you for your time and check.
I am not really referring to a thumbnail. I take a picture in portrait orientation, once I preview the picture taken it is in portrait orientation but the moment I hit zoom button to check for the sharpness it switches to landscape so imagine I have a person in a portrait orientation on my picture so the head is up but the moment I zoom in and I want to check whether eyes are perfectly sharp I have to move the joystick to the left because once the image is switched to landscape orientation the head is no longer up but to the left which is extremely annoying. Still with portraits it is easy to accommodate that you need to move to the left or wherever you want to go as body is easy for your eye to understand where is what however when I take landscapes and I zoom 100% in I am losing an idea where I need to go with joystick in order to check the part of the image I want to verify sharpness from.
Hope you got my point. I guess I might record a video and post it somewhere if not clear. Let me know.
thank you
