Those aren't too large when full size. That's close to half-scale, isn't it? The builder should have just gone full-scale, then s/he can fly themselves, too.

I'm amazed at what ever the builder used to work the huge (by RC standards) control surfaces. He flies a full routine with loops & rolls etc but none of it couls be considered at 'high speed".

Those things don't fly fast at full scale :-)
I suspect the builder used a set of full-scale plans- they don't seem too expensive
