The shot seems almost level with the koala. You didn't really climb 20 meters up the next tree to get it, did you?

Hmm, don't go putting ideas into my head.:-)

No - I had the 300mm F2.8L with the Extender x2 Mk III, giving me 600mm, and I was a fair way off and slightly up hill from the base of the tree (Tallowwood I think?), so the angle wasn't as steep as just shooting straight up.:-)

Cheers

Dennis

We went for an early morning walk through our local Toohey Forest when we heard the mating grunts of a male Koala.:-)

Upon tracing the grunts to a small area in the forest, we finally found him, perched some 20 metres up the tree. Not a lady was in sight, but he did look quite sleepy; pleasant dreams maybe?:-)

Cheers

Dennis

Very nice shot!!

Wonderful shot, Dennis. What a great find to come across on your morning walk.

Mike they're elusive characters and more so in a dam.
In creeks they're easier to see up close and in clear waters they are a delight to watch.

Adding that there is concern for their well being with numbers dwindling. Just don’t go trying to pick one up. They (males I believe) have a venomous spur on their hind feet. Not life threatening but supposed to be extremely painful.

Great capture! The mood in this shot is kind of eerie looking. I really like it.

Thank you! This big male and I locked eyes about a quarter mile down the trail as he went through a field from his usual den area. I suspected he was headed toward a praire dog colony for breakfast so I just waited for him. We stared at each other for a minute and I left so he could go about with his business.
