That is a nice looking bridge!
Are there any signs saying when the bridge was built?

The under construction one really shows the principal of construction very well. Gives great credit to the engineers designing them. I will post better pics when I/if I can find them. Ray-P

I read an interesting fact about the Forth Rail Bridge when I was re-studying expansion coefficient. I have been unable find the article again so I could not cross reference it for true/false. Apparently, they were unable join one of the main sections. So they built great fires around the base and the expansion enabled the linking bolts up at track level to be placed. I have not found any other reference to this and I wanted to authenticate the story. It this what you were looking for? There were problems caused by the flexing of the long tubes, by the force of the wind and by the steel expanding as it was heated by the sun: one degree Fahrenheit brought a contraction or expansion of an eighth of an inch. When the temperature reached 60 degrees on the west side on a sunny afternoon, key junction bolts could be inserted there, but bolt holes on the east side only coincided after fires were started inside the tubes.
