That is a nice looking bridge!

Are there any signs saying when the bridge was built?

Yes KK that is one pretty little bridge and the curved weir just in front.

Is there another weir just the other side of the bridge too?

Thank you. It is a beautiful place to explore with a 4 ton rock that you can move by lifting it. The water drops abut 10 meters and disappears into huge rocks and caverns.

What is KK?

I'm guessing "King Kenny", the original poster. Shortened to KK maybe.

Forth Road Bridge Scotland. UK. (Not to be confused with the Forth (Rail) Bridge about a mile East.
I saw the bridge under construction in 1963 but this was the best picture I could find and it was taken an Olympus PenE half frame. (I don't know why I didn't use a full frame 35mm.)
There has since been an additional bridge built.

Interesting photos Ray.
The under construction one really shows the principal of construction very well.
Gives great credit to the engineers designing them.

I will post better pics when I/if I can find them.
I read an interesting fact about the Forth Rail Bridge when I was re-studying expansion coefficient. I have been unable find the article again so I could not cross reference it for true/false.
Apparently, they were unable join one of the main sections. So they built great fires around the base and the expansion enabled the linking bolts up at track level to be placed. I have not found any other reference to this and I wanted to authenticate the story.

It this what you were looking for?

There were problems caused by the flexing of the long tubes, by the force of the wind and by the steel expanding as it was heated by the sun: one degree Fahrenheit brought a contraction or expansion of an eighth of an inch. When the temperature reached 60 degrees on the west side on a sunny afternoon, key junction bolts could be inserted there, but bolt holes on the east side only coincided after fires were started inside the tubes.

never underestimate the expansion of steel
We had to apply that in our work and over the lengths of that bridge it could be significant. If the weather was extremely cold no wonder it didn't join.
I imagine they had all that worked out and the end abutments would have some nice bearings to slide over.
Whenever you drive over modern bridges you'll get that 'thump' at times when you hit the expansion void between the abutment and the start of the deck.
It's quite significant but only if you take notice.

Since we were discussing bridge construction in progress, here's one from 2008 over the Eel River in northern California. If I counted the scaffolding correctly, the vertical shot is about 14 stories tall.
