I hear what you are saying especially give the times. It's hard to be inspired at the moment.

Back in the 90s when my daughter was born my inspiration came from the fact that a good portion if my family was located overseas in Europe and I committed to ensuring that her grandparents experienced as much of her milestone years as possible. I was still shooting Kodachrome at the time but was also into video quite a bit. I can't tell you how many NTSC to PAL VHS conversion I did over a 10 year period . In hindsight I'm really glad I did, my daughter is in her late 20s now and I have recorded memories that will be with me for the rest of my years.

Yeah my oldest is 12 now and its making me really want to keep at this with my younger kids....this time flies so quickly.

Lol video conversions....I really need to shoot more video for documentary purposes.

So the calibration unit actively adjusts the monitor settings based on the ambient light in the room?

If so, then the issue I'm having right now is that I'm editing in an area that has a lot of window light...during the day its pretty bright in here. I have an LG ultrafine monitor that will torch up to 500nits, which is great when its bright, but there have been several occasions where I am editing when its a bit darker and when I look at the output later, the exposure is much darker than I was targeting.

That's more or less the idea as I understand it, my lighting is fairly constant so I'm not seeing much difference, at least not with the monitor I'm currently using (ASUS PA329).

That was one of the advanced features that attracted me to the Spyder (light sensor that adjust to suit ambient) but since the software didn’t work properly the feature wasn’t useable

Just grabbing the camera and shooting at all when its just another day. Hard to find inspiration to do at times

Gotcha. Well...keep snapping cause, as you know, down the road you'll be glad you have pic to look back on...even if they aren't the most amazing works of art! That said, I totally go through periods when I'm like "dang, I really don't need anymore pics of the kids right now!". Another thing thing to think about is that I guarantee that soon enough they want want anything to do with the cam pointed at them. Then they will do their best to sabotage your shots! Make me livid sometimes.

Speaking of video...I picked up a crane M2 gimbal and have been playing with it. Have made a few 4K vids with iMovie. They were previously playing back just fine. Now they seem to be a bit choppy. Anyone have any simple ideas why they might be playing back choppy?

Sounds like your output FPS is different than the captured fps I.e shooting in 24fps then iMovie outputting at 30fps for example. I had a similar issue previously and that was the culprit, I accidentally shot at 25fps and made a 24fps edit. Ended up with a sort of stutter effect

Thx Eddie, I’ll check. Admittedly I have no idea what I’m doing in terms of output settings.

What’s strange is one particular vid played well first few times I looked at it. Now I’ve come back a couple weeks later and it seems choppy. Made me think something was going on with the computer. I closed all the programs and restarted The computer. Did better but started getting choppy again midway through the video. Strange.

Living now at altitude we have a few new species.
This my first ever Red Breasted Nuthatch.
Down in the city only the White Breasted; here we have both.

Via the Riv + Canon 200/2.8, another gem for fast and lightweight. Plus it crosses
over to the X-T4 via the Fringer very well.

Both are fine and basically do the same thing. Both also have horrible software. You’re best of using Display Cal which is MUCH more accurate. The shortest cycle on that one is a lot longer than Datacolor software but it is much more accurate and free.

That’s why I try and step away from WFH for even a few minutes every hour. Working from home has been a challenge, even more so now that the kids school has temporarily (maybe longer?) closed. My 7 year old is doing great at it, my 5 year old is a mess, but expecting a kindergartner to do well sitting still behind a computer for 6 hours a day is a recipe for disaster.

I had to panic and go out and buy a couple of computers for them to use for virtual. Gotta say it’s been a while since I looked but getting Chromebooks for $170 is insane. Even crazier is 3 days after getting 2 for $170 each Target had similar ones for $120 each. Need to go and return the $170 ones.

I picked up i1Display pro about 2-3 weeks ago and then used the software from BenQ to calibrate my monitor.
