I don't know whether light affects its fruiting. The cactus is in the backyard, not near street lights. In the morning, the flowers attract honeybees while closing slowly over several hours. I haven't seen night-flying pollinators visit. These cacti are so prolific at vegetative reproduction, sending up shoots from the base, that they could do well without fruiting.
