Hi all,

Wonder if you can help with a recommendation for a rucksack please.

Requirements are:
Needs to hold 1DXIII preferably with L plate attached along with 70-200 2.8 this gives a measurement of around 185-190 mm from top of camera to base of L plate
Maybe room for 24-70 2.8
Would like the benefit of outer storage pockets for water and snacks etc

Rucksack design not sling and good quality a must

Something like the Lowepro Flipside 400 has too much additional storage, something like a smaller version of the Think Tank Glass Limo would be perfect

Thanks for your help

Stuart

Have a look at the ThinkTank/Mindshift Backlight 36L. It might be close to what you are after. Dual side water bottle pockets and a thin front pocket.

Nya-Evo has some nice packs that take pro-depth inserts and have extra pockets as well.

I have the 36L and love it. I really like the fact that you can lay it on the ground to work out of it and when you put it back on, the side that was on the ground isn't against your back. I carry a 1DX, 500MM F4 ver I, 5D4, 100-400 ver II, 24-70 ver II, spare batteries, tele extenders, binos and memory cards. If you look here https://photography-on-the.net …showthread.php?p=19054035 is my layout. I think the 1DXII with an L-bracket will be a bit tall.

I've had a look and to be honest they are way too big, I have a Lowepro Pro Trekker II AW which came with a Day Pack which is ideal, but has no padding and is not weather proof.
Size wise it is perfect, having spent ages looking around I came to the conclusion a camera bag that fits my requirements does not exist. Nearest things I can find are small hiking rucksacks.

As you pointed out Woody, the DX3 with L bracket (Promedia Gear) is very deep, getting on for 190mm.

Striker.
We have the same problem as we have large cameras with a built in Grip or an additional grip that I use with both of my 5D Mark III’s. With the added height of the camera, most Camera bag companies take this into account and make the bag a bit larger to fit our needs.
Last Spring I also bought the Mindshift 36 L in Charcoal. It will handle a Gripped 5D Mark III with a70-200 f/2.8 L IS Mark II Attached, a second gripped 5D Mark III, a 16-35, 24-70 and a 24 mm TS-E along with a couple of 600 EX -RT Speedlites, 2 ST- E3 RT Transmitters And other essentials.
A big bag that can accommodate all that and more room for light coat etc, bottle holder etc.
having all that weight in the bag, it is dispersed nicely on your body.

Canon 5D Mark III (x2), BG-E11 Grips, 7D (x2) BG-E7 Grips, Canon Lenses 16-35 f/4 L IS, 17-40 f/4 L, 24-70 f/4 L IS, 70-200 f/2.8 L IS II, 70-200 f/4 L IS, 70-200 f/4 L IS Version II, 100-400 f/4.5-5.6 L IS Version II, TS-E 24 f/3.5 L II, 100 f/2.8 L Macro IS, 10-22 f3.5-4.5, 17-55 f/2.8 L IS, 85 f/1.8, Canon 1.4 Extender III, 5 Canon 600 EX-RT, 2 Canon ST-E3 Transmitters, Canon PRO-300 Printer

Thats the problem Nick, I have that many bags as my usual day out means carrying 1DX2, 1DX3, 300 2.8, 500 F4, 24-70 2.8 and 70-200 2.8 along with 2 flashguns. All this is usually in bags i the car which I drive around the perimeter of racing circuits etc.

I want something just to carry one body and either the 70-200 or 24-70, you know a local walk around the park etc, maybe one other lens and waterproof jacket but not any more.

Maybe you can add padding to your current ideally sized pack. Or use a padded wrap for the camera and lens.
