Sony Lounge Thread MKIII (All Sony cameras welcome)

I am resisting 200-600mm as I just don't have the time to shoot much. Working late as I type this and it may continue past 12:00am. Here is one from my Canon days, only 8MP.

Wow, Travis...wonderful capture! Such a beautiful bird. Also the sharpness and clarity of the 200-600mm consistently stands out to me.

Now that I have a nice lot (1.5 acre) and a beautifully wooded back and side yard (nothing but forest beyond and beside us) it might open up some possibilities for me to capture similar images - I’d need to upgrade my gear though.

I am impressed with the sharpness, it can be a bit slow to focus, if I was shooting something further away and swivel to something closer it doesn't want to change...and I have the a9 set to sensitive. But the sharpness is there. If I had a lot of land, I would have blinds set up all over!

The 200-600 arrived this afternoon as it was getting too dark to shoot anything outside. I put a Wimberley foot on it.

That is one thing that bugs me about the 200-600...the foot is a different size than the 100-400 and 70-200...so my nice RRS foot...doesn't fit...

I probably would have gone with the RRS for the 200-600, but they were out of stock everywhere I checked. Once I replace an OEM foot, I rarely take it off, so I'm fine with the Wimberley not having the quick release. It also didn't hurt that it was $50 less than the RRS.

I just wish that Sony and Canon would make the feet on the big telephotos Arca-Swiss compatible in the first place.

I had a good 30 minute therapy session this afternoon as soon as I got home with the 200-600...imaged 12 different kinds of birds in that time...

One of my favorites was this Pine Warbler hanging out in what is left of the fall foliage on my Maple Tree. This is a crop that is about 50% of the original frame.

Last one for tonight...I don't want to bore anyone...but the juveniles don't sit still very long, and this one had great coloring and the background...that background...in the full resolution file, I can see the reflection of my house...in the eye...shot handheld at 600mm, 1/250 second exposure, f/6.3, ISO 1600. This is only cropped a little, this is 83% of the original, I just couldn't crop out that background.

Here's a BTS of my shot. I used an LED light panel shooting through tracing paper in a window screen frame for the main light. You can see the gold foil cutout that was behind the bottle. Not shown is a white foamcore board I handheld on the left to throw some light on the right side of the bottle.

The foil paper is taped to a piece of styrofoam and placed at an angle to bounce light through the bottle from behind.

Ive seen the video and understand how effective and the difference it makes. WOW.
After the suggestion by Travis on a a suspicion I checked the camera settings and I'm guilty of a basic school boy error. The WB had changed from Auto to a custom setting. Totally unintentional. Another one to added to my ever increasing keep checking list!

Done this before but I tried it again.

On the subject of WB.....

I have a custom kelvin of 5000 or 5100 which I tend to use for woodland stuff. I find it more accurate and as I do panorama images I like consistency. I'm pretty sure though, that when I've imported in LR, it shows something like a 4750 WB......

I need to check for sure though.

I use auto WB 99% of the time for other stuff and I know that theoretically it shouldn’t matter if all my pano shots are different WB and I can just make them the same in post but not sure if it’s my imagination but it seems to work better if they are the same WB when captured

I’m not the biggest bird photo fan but this is really nice. I think it’s the combination of the nice background and the leaves and branches in addition to the bird

Yeah I haven't taken the foot off the 70-200 except to use in on the 100-400 when I have rented it...I don't know why they don't just come from the MFR that way, they should.

I shoot custom WB ALL the time, I rarely if ever use Auto or one of the other presets. And it is typical that the WB shown in camera varies from what LR thinks, something about how each interprets the scale...one would think that it was a scientific thing and it would all be the same...but...and light bulbs are backwards, a 2700 K lightbulb is very warm and 6000k is very blue/white...go figure.

I also thought about getting the RRS but as you said it was sold out pretty much everywhere, I eventually went with the Kirk foot which is really nice and cheaper than the RRS as well.
I really don't understand why manufactures don't release lenses with built in AS, the one exception I have is the Sigma 105 f1.4 it's ;ens foot is AS compatible but it's pretty short which makes it difficult to use as a "lens handle" when walking around.

I also got the Wimberley replacement foot for my FE 200-600. It was $79 through Amazon.

quick shot of the a7siii with cage/handle and 7" atamos..ready for action.

i have another couple of music videos to shoot in december

its a bit heavier now .. but this actually helps get rid of the micro jitters.
