Nov 25, 2020 11:48 | #4099 We're near the eastern edge of the migration pattern for the Western grebe. There has been one hanging around a lake that I frequent and I managed to get out early one morning this past week to take some photos. It's a fun bird to watch with an interesting personality. MikeMartin Senior Member More info | Dec 04, 2020 11:30 | #4109 Superb shot. Do you know which R5 firmware you had installed when you took this? I have 1.2 installed on my R5 and yesterday it missed 90 out of 100 shots. Image hosted by forum (1076458) © Mike Martin [SHARE LINK] THIS IS A LOW QUALITY PREVIEW. Hosted photo: posted by Mike Martin in ./showthread.php?p=19161658&i=i229645119 forum: Lens Sample Photo Archive I also have the latest firmware, 1.2, but I don't think your issues are related to the firmware. One thing I noticed with the R5 is that it seems to require a higher shutter speed when using the Eye-AF. With my 5D IV, I'd be able to get well focused shots like the above with the shutter speed of 1/800 comfortably, using the spot AF point. With the same setting in R5 in Eye-AF, I suddenly noticed a lot of OOF shots, so now I'm shooting the R5 at 1/1250sec. I haven't had a chance to shoot much lately since the discovery, so I'd need to confirm my own findings with further tests.
