So a question for those with the R6 that have shot action. I have seen the YouTube videos on the eye focus, where the box follows the eye on a stationary model. I was wondering how you get the same eye focus consistency in a sports event?. Do you hit the focus on the athlete you want to track and then continue with a 1/2 pressed shutter in Servo and it will keep following the same athlete? I am thinking of following one runner in a group of runners at a XC event, for example?

It usually follows the eyes of the person you placed the initial focus onto, and once the eyes aren't found it goes to face/object detect. I don't often have it switch around to other eyes, it is pretty much eyes, and then if nothing in that area all of a sudden, try to "zoom back" and look for the object those eyes were on. That seems to be the basic logic for my setup anyways.

If it switches eyes, I just let go of BBF and then press it again with the initial AF point back on that person's eyes.

It isn't going to be perfect, once it loses track completely, it will try to figure out where to go next, and you will likely have to retrain the AF point back on the runner at some point. However much better than spot AF on a person's head and track that person hoping the eyes are in focus with the DSLR.

Thanks, so when it is in the face tracking mode, you have a focus point on the screen to place initially and then it tracks from there as long as you keep the shutter half pushed (of BBF)?

Yes that is pretty much what happens when shooting sports for me with my configuration. There are some settings that control some of that behavior too.

Got my RF 50mm 1.8, it's so tiny. I got it really late in the day, so only had time to take 3 or 4 pictures.

Sweet shot.
I'm thinking of getting that lens too. How is the AF?

I'm speaking from very limited experience, but it seemed to find/lock on to my dogs eye super fast. They were stationary though. I haven't had a chance to really put it through some paces.

It's so tiny though. I can see it living on my camera when I'm not out on wildlife specific outings.

I haven't totally given up on the 800 f11 for BIFs, though it's a distant last in preference behind the 100-400 ii and the 150-600 Contemporary. While photographing diving ducks I killed slow times trying to track Ring-billed Gulls. I used a tripod and that seemed to help getting keepers and tracking them in flight (as long as they didn't get too close). (Photos taken with RF6 and 800 f11, despite the Metadata.)

Thanks, LD? Yes, very brave...it's why my hockey friends used to call me Mad Dog. ߘ With a pier jutting out into a long lake, just one of those venues where a tripod fits in reasonably well.

Sorry I was supposed to come back with more feedback on this lens but didn't get a chance to test it properly last weekend due to rain. But I hope to test it this weekend and I will try to test the AF.
