I have a Really Right Stuff single-row pano set. It works great. I was lucky to get mine here for a really great price. From RRS it is rather expensive. It looks brand-new. Second-hand is ideal because there is little to go wrong with the equipment.
For taking panoramas, all you have to do is basically get the bubbles centered (which ensures the set-up is level). If using a short focal-length lens, you may need to find the no-parallax point (often called the nodal point) of the lens. With longer focal lengths, it is not as necessary (but won't hurt). For single row panoramas, once leveled it is as simple as rotating the camera. Remember to overlap the shots sufficiently for you panoramic software to stitch the photos together. Happy shooting.
