Image License Fee for Digital Frames

I have a client that wants to license a landscape portfolio to run on a digital frame.
Starting print price is $100 (8x12)

What should I charge?

You need to specify Quantity of Use; Purpose of Use...

1. Is this for ONE client to display on a digital frame, or
   
2. Is this for multiple digital frames which are for sale?
   
   
3. Is there any promotional usage of the photo (to sell frames, to promote a business) or
   
4. Is this only for personal enjoyment

Also key, is WHERE are you, what country's policies and practices does the answer need to comform to?

The right answer is very dependent on what the answers will be!

A reasonable request. There are several different usage cases.

1) Private personal viewing
2) Public personal viewing (office or public entry)
3) Product promotion
4) Publication

That's a lot of turf to cover. I am interested in 1) first. I think I have an idea. Something like this:

$50 1-3
$35 4-6
$25 7+

10 images would cost 150 + 105 + 100 = 355
17 images would cost 150 + 105 + 250 = 505

I am in SF Bay Area

Usually #2 and #3 and #4 are set depending upon the NUMBER of uses (e.g. certain number of brochure copies) or duration of time that image is displayed (such as for promotion of a particular event). More uses, or more copies, or longer time = higher fee.

#1 is somewhat analogous to selling a print and the owner of the print gets to view it as much as little as they want.

And, of course, having a client who is a charity would be different than a client who is a corporation is different than a client who is a small business.

Someone who is current in commercial usage fees apropos to a major metropolitan area would need to comment about actual fees.

The digital frame prints are 1600px wide. They are not high resolution and will never look as good as a print.

The resolution of the frame is irrelevant for pricing. The licensing guidelines you find online are going to be useless as they are usually meant for print runs. You basically have to decide on a price you are happy with. The licensing agreement should reflect that you are not transferring any printing rights.

and tranferring only speicific (and non-transferrable) rights about type of usage to promote their business or product(s)
