Stepped out in the cold early to put bird seed out as always. Being careful not to break my neck on the frozen snow, I looked up and saw this. Just freaking wow moment for me.
Moon and Venus.
Moon 3.3%-27.8 days old and -2.1mag

I might add that the Trifid Nebula and Lagoon Nebula lies just above and between the moon/Venus.

Not nearly as cool as MiJe's shot, but I just decided to shoot the moon one morning.

Hand-held with the Sigma 150-600 C. Cropped and processed.

The thin crescent Moon joined Mercury and Jupiter just after sunset last Thursday 14th January. This is the view from up in the Bunya Mountains in South East Queensland, looking down over the surrounding plains. There was a bit of smoke low on the horizon which enhanced the sunset colours nicely :)

Really beautiful capture! Amazing you managed to pull in Mercury and Jupiter that low through the smoky haze. I like you’ve got the full circle of the moon also.
Well done!

After thinking more about the image I am surprised the Moon did not start and end nearer the same location.

Interesting, but I'm not sure how it could be at the same time each day, when the moon is on the opposite side of the earth after 14 days.

Still waiting for the wisdom they promised would be worth getting old for.

I guess I did not explain my thinking as I should have, which unfortunately I seem to do quite often here.

I do understand each day at the same time of day each picture was taken it will be in a different location from new moon to full moon.

But I would think that between day 1 and day 28 (new moon back to the next new moon one month later) would be much closer to each other in location as far as the pictures in the above link shows with the camera body staying in the exact same place each and every day.

Isn't that what the pictures show? New moon on to the next new moon one month later?

Now do you understand my thinking?? I do hope!!!!!!!!

Interesting that there were 28 days straight of clear skies.

Yes I understood your thinking, my comment was in reference to the Twitter caption that says they were taken at the same place and at the same time.

Re your thinking, the moon does wander around a bit. One way to work out exactly where it will come up, or set or be at a particular time, is to use an app called The Photographer's Ephemeris. I'm sure there are other apps as well.

Yes I was thinking the same exact thing! That NEVER happens in Indiana especially in the winter. It has now been probably 2-3 weeks of clouds every single day
