Nikon AF-S Nikkor 300mm f/4E PF ED VR

First impressions of the lens just impressed me with my expectations.
stunning sharpness immediately at the open aperture, cool stabilizer, small dimensions and weight.

It's a fantastic lens and the weight (lack of) make it even that much better.

Post some images when you can.

Some sample shots from the 300PF with 1.4 X mk3 TC on my D7500, these two are long range shots just of some distant hills about Four miles away - nothing much but they did come out quite clear I think and wide open at f5.6.

And a Crow shot from about Twenty feet away using group focus mode wonder if the lens is slightly front focusing - if you lokk at the zone of focus appaers to be more from the Crow and infront than behind.

What is your impression of the AF speed with the TC on the lens? The 300mm PF with a teleconverter would be great for air shows.

From the limited time I have used it sofar Its the fastest lens combo with the TC I have used, even faster than the bare nikon 300 f4 ED screw drive lens I used to own, fater than any zoom lens including the excellent 70-300 AF-P FX so I would say it would be Perfect for an airshow.

Awesome, I have that AF-P 70-300 lens and it focuses pretty quickly in my opinion so better than that sounds fantastic.

Its the quality and weight vrs size that makes it such a fantastic lens it also has the Sport mode VR really useful for fast shutter speeds where you still want a still VF I used to have the FX version of the 70-300 AF-P last year, that also had the Sport mode its so ueseful.

Also dont foreget it has the focus limiter that speeds focus up aswel, I havn't had to use that yet though.

I am just hoping the Air Show events in my area aren't all cancelled again this year, Covid is really bad here right now.

Same over here, biggest one I used to attend was RIAT Fairford I attended 2017 and 19, was hoping to go this year but its still not sure what will happen or what the restrictions might be if it does open up.

I hav put some of my pics on the Airshow section under Transport in here taken with the D7200 and AF-P FX 70-300 VR.

I was looking for some particular images today & came across these from last August. They made me think of this thread.

I have been getting some cracking shots out of my combo, however I am supprised to see a couple of simple shots way out of focus, I am sure it must be user error or the settings I am using, back button focus (I have always used this) Tracking set to middle setting number 3 I think? release mode for the focus, using VR in Sport mode at shutter speeds over 1/1000sec.

Strange one.

Sorry to hear the weather is still uncooperative.

These are reasonably sharp, particularly thru a window. Ya gotta love DeNoise!

Thanks mate, I have been calibrating lens to body but the hard way by comparing shots already taken seeing where the focus falls, I think I have it sorted now as it was very slightly front focusing so I dialed in + 4 in the camera.
