It's a little easier to shoot a Trumpeter Swan on a cloudy day without blowing out the whites.

Back to the zoo. Well, I decided to focus (figuratively and literally) on orangutans today. Just for fun I took two kinds of tech with me. First the Canon EOS 7DMkII, with a Sigma 150-600C lens, and the EOS R6 with its 100-500 lens.

So, first the 7DII:

Now the R6:

Both got shots, but the R6 had the higher keeper rate by quite a bit.

I have a friend who owns an R and I was surprised that he mainly shoots in One Shot and rarely servo unless there’s action. He said he has some missed shots and I figure it’s probably due to One Shot.

For the near 4 years I’ve been using mirrorless, I’ve always use Servo/AF-C if I’m handheld and One Shot only when I’m on a tripod and my subject is static. Assuming I always have a decent shutter speed, I always have a 100% hit rate.

Does everyone else here use Servo unless on a tripod?

For shooting moving subjects such as animals I use servo, but I rarely ever use a tripod.

Same. I also have a monopod that I rarely use. Now with IBIS on the R6, it will certainly be collecting dust.

Here's another example of the animal eye focus. Nailed it despite ALL those branches. Would have been difficult (not impossible) on the 7D2 with the heavy Sigma 150-600.

13 of 30+ Trumpeter Swans in the area. This is one of the times I could have used a wide angle lens.
